A 95-year-old woman died after she was knocked down by a speeding car on Wednesday morning.

The woman, Shantabai Joshi, was walking on Deen Dayal Road in front of Billeshwar Mahadev temple when a car rammed into her around 7 am. “Joshi succumbed to grievous injuries,” said a police officer.

Police are on the lookout for a Honda City car based on descriptions given by eye-witnesses. They are also in the process of examining CCTV camera footage.

Police registered a case against the driver under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 184 (driving dangerously) and 134 A and B (escaping from the spot without rendering help to the victim) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
