Mumbai man clicks selfie, hangs self after friend dupes him of Rs60,000
The police will question his friend on Thursday.
A 22 -year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his chawl in Virar after being allegedly duped of Rs 60,000 by a friend. Somnath Anna Shinde from Ghas Kopri in Virar (East) clicked a selfie before tying a rope around his neck, said the police. No one has been arrested as the police are waiting for the post-mortem report.
A suicide note was recovered from the spot. It mentioned that Ananda Vithoba Sangle took Rs 60,000 from Shinde in August, promising a loader’s job at the Mumbai domestic airport. Shinde had borrowed money from his father, said an officer from Virar police. Despite repeated pleas, Sangle refused to return the money to him, prompting Shinde to kill himself, according to the note. Shinde stayed with four other people in the chawl.
On Tuesday evening, Shinde hung himself from the ceiling fan and clicked a selfie of the act, said the officer. He also apologised to his father for not returning the money and killing himself.
The police haver registered an accidental death report.
The body had been sent for a post-mortem, said the official. “We will question Sangle tomorrow. This case could be a tip of a big scam involving people promising jobs as loaders at the airport,” he said.
