A Mumbai man was found dead on the tracks, while two commuters, including a minor boy, were hurt in three separate railway accidents in Kalyan on Wednesday, said the government railway police (GRP).

In one incident, an Ulhasnagar resident was found unconscious on the tracks near Vitthalwadi railway station around 6pm. Commuters took the man, Gurmeet Singh,34, to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The Kalyan GRP registered a case of accidental death.

“We are examining CCTV camera footage to find out how the man died and if he fell from a local train or was crossing the tracks when a train hit him,” he added.

In another incident, Chembur resident Madhuri Pathak, 28, was travelling by the Lucknow Express. When the train halted at Kalyan railway station, Pathak made her way to the footboard and was spitting, when she slipped and fell. She suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

In the third incident that day, Adesh Shelar, 3, was travelling with his family on the Rajyrani Express. Shelar was seated by the window, when the sliding window pane came loose and crushed his right hand around 9.25 am. The family alighted at Kalyan railway station and took him to a nearby medical aid unit.

“We have asked the railway authorities to fix the shutters in all the trains,” added the officer.
