A 32-year-old man on Tuesday killed his 20-year-old girlfriend and committed suicide at Ambernath on Tuesday, said police. The motive is not yet clear.
Metram Chadrabhan Verma, 32, a labourer, lived in Ambernath, while the woman, Anchal Shriram Mahalle, 20, worked at a private firm and stayed in Diva. As Mahalle’s parents were out of town, she stayed at Verma’s home in Kansai at Ambernath for two days.
“He strangled Mahalle and hanged himself from the ceiling fan using her dupatta,” said Nandkumar Kenjale, officer from Shivaji Nagar police station.
Before ending his life, Verma texted Mahalle’s parents, “She is dead and I am committing suicide. Please take our body from Ambernath.”
Mahalle’s parents then asked their relatives to go to Verma’s home. The relatives found the two unconscious. They were taken to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
An officer from Thane commissionerate said, “The neighbours told us they were living together. We are yet to find out why they took the extreme step. We will talk to the woman’s parents once they return.”
