Mumbai University results delay: Vinod Tawde says Maharashtra government will conduct inquiry

Tawde said strict action will be taken against those found guilty.

State education minister Vinod Tawde said the government will conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the delay in paper assessment and declaration of results by the University of Mumbai (MU) and assured that all results will be declared by July 31.

With members of the state legislative council pressing for action against vice-chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh, Tawde said the government will convey the sentiments of the house to governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who would be a competent authority to take any action.

Responding to a calling attention motion in the upper house on Wednesday, Tawde said, “We will thoroughly investigate the paper correction mechanism and the concerned persons. We will take strict action against anyone found guilty. The government will convey the sentiments of the house to the governor."

This is the first time the MU has moved to an online assessment process, leading to major delays in completion of assessment and announcement of results of examinations held in April-May. Tawde said once the government meets the July 31 deadline to declare results, it will look into if there were any shortcomings by the company appointed to facilitate the online assessment and take action.

Tawde said so far, of 477 examinations, the university has declared results for 104 and the rest will be announced by July 31. “I assure the house that there will be no impact on the quality of assessment despite the delay. The university has finished the assessment of 70% answer papers and about 5.29 lakh are left," he said.
