Chintaman Baraf used to live with his wife Suman alias Nirmala Baraf, 45, in Valvanda, in Jawhar and worked as a labourer on a farm. His wife left home without informing anyone in November last year and returned on Monday. The Jawhar police said, when she came back, Chinataman asked her why she had left and she decided to stay mum. Suman’s silence angered him.

He picked up an iron rod and began hitting her on her right knee while saying that he would injure her so she can never leave, said PI Ganshyam Adhav of Jawhar police station. But the assault tore her popliteal artery, which is located near the knee and she bled to death, he added.

“Chintaman showed no remorse when we arrested him and has been remanded in police custody,” said Adhav.
