Pavement dweller found in south Mumbai with head smashed

A suspected pavement dweller, in his late 20s, was found with his head smashed near Azad Maidan on Saturday night.

The victim was spotted lying motionless by a constable, Gopal Singh Narsingh Rajput, 36, who was patrolling the area near the Income Tax office. Sing alerted the control room and the man was taken St George hospital for post-mortem.
The police said the accused had smashed the victim’s head and face. “The paver block was covered in blood when we recovered it from the spot,” said an officer.
“By the condition of the body, it seems that the pavement dweller was killed owing to enmity,” said the officer. The police have registered a murder case.
The police are yet to trace the victim’s family and hand over the body to them, said the officer.
