The Mumbai traffic police said the incident took place at Sunder Lane in Goregaon (West) near Dalmia College.

The man, identified as Parag Pawaskar, was travelling in a WagonR when tree collapsed on top of two cars including his due to the heavy rain.

The BMC’s disaster cell was alerted at 7.08am. A fire brigade was dispatched to initiate rescue operations.

“The fire brigade team cut a portion of the tree to pull out the driver stuck under the mangled car,” BMC’s disaster cell said.

The police said Pawaskar was taken to a nearby hospital as soon as the tree was cut to provide enough space to pull him out. He was declared dead on arrival.
