Two-year-old dies after part of home ceiling collapses in Virar

A two-year-old girl, Alisa Kasar, died on Saturday morning after a slab from the ceiling of her house in Virar fell on her.

The girl lived with her family in a flat in a dilapidated 23-year-old building in Shabana Manzil, Virar east.

The family had retired for the night in the living room on Friday night, and around 5:30 in the morning, a huge portion of the ceiling collapsed, and a slab from the roof fell on Alisa.

Her father, Rashid Kasar, a carpenter, rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival, as she succumbed to suffered severe skull injuries.

The Virar police have registered a case of accidental death and are still investigating the case.

Around 30 families live in the 23-year-old building, which has large cracks all over its structure.

The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has not conducted any structural audits or even warned residents about the bad condition of the building till date.

No VVMC official was available for comment.
