‘Why is govt silent on Thakur’s comment?’: Supriya Sule
“Despite her vicious comments, the government is silent. As a common citizen and voter, I want to question the PM, why is he not commenting on Thakur’s comment. How can the government be so insensitive?” Supriya Sule asked.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule on Friday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, Pragya Singh Thakur, had insulted the entire state of Maharashtra through her remarks on slain former Mumbai anti-terrorism squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare. She also questioned the “silence” over the issue by the government and by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

“Despite her vicious comments, the government is silent. As a common citizen and voter, I want to question the PM, why is he not commenting on Thakur’s comment. How can the government be so insensitive?” she asked.
Thakur had said Karkare, who was killed during the 26/11 attacks, had died after she had “cursed” him. Karkare as ATS chief had probed the 2008 Malegaon blast and Thakur was arrested for alleged involvement in the case. Following outrage over her remarks about Karkare, Thakur apologised.
Sule, who was campaigning for NCP’s Thane candidate Anand Paranjpe, said, “We’ve seen him raise issues in Parliament (when he was MP). Talking to people of this constituency, I have realised basic issues like rationing and water supply aren’t resolved.”
