MUMBAI: A man drowned in a swimming pool at a resort on Monday afternoon.

Nishikant Pitale, 36, who used to work in a lottery shop, was at the Visawa Resort in Virar with his friends to celebrate the long weekend on account of the Independence Day holiday falling on Monday.
Kerubhau Kolhe, inspector, Arnala coastal police station, who went through the CCTV images at the resort, said the incident happened around 4pm, after Pitale came down a slide and landed in the 4 feet deep water.
The cause of the death is cardiac arrest owing to drowning, said doctors. A case of accidental death has been registered and the viscera has been sent for forensic analysis and its report is awaited. “We will also be questioning the owner of the resort and the victim’s friends,” said Kolhe.
