MUMBAI: The body of a woman aged around 35 washed ashore the Juhu beach at Santacruz on Saturday night. The police are investigating if the woman committed suicide or if it was an accidental death.

According to the Juhu police, an alert citizen spotted the body in the shallow water at the beach behind Tulip Star hotel around 9pm. The citizen called up the main police control room on emergency number 100, after which a police van was sent to the spot.

The police said no gold ornaments were found on the woman’s body. The body was not decomposed, which indicates she may have died less than 24 hours ago, said police, adding there is no external injury on the body.

A police officer, who conducted the panchnama, prima facie ruled out murder. Sources said the police are waiting for the post-mortem report from Cooper hospital.

A case of accidental death has been recorded. The police have circulated the woman’s photo on their WhatsApp groups to check if any police station has got a missing complaint in the woman’s name.
