MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Wednesday extended the interim relief of protection from arrest to television actor and producer Rahul Raj Singh by two weeks, in a cheating case filed by model and aspiring actress Heer Patel.

Singh was granted the anticipatory bail by the high court in August. When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, the state initially opposed its extension. However, it eventually sought two weeks to file an affidavit summarising its objections.

Singh was charged with having duped Patel of Rs 25 lakh. He has maintained that the case against him is ‘motivated’ as the incident took place in 2010 and Patel complained to the police only six years later. He also argued that he was co-operating with the police and that his custodial interrogation was not required.

The state government told the court that Singh was a habitual offender and had “three more cases of cheating pending against him.”

According to the FIR, Singh had narrated a movie script to Patel in 2010 and asked her to arrange for Rs25 lakh, promising to cast her as the lead actress in the movie.

However, after Patel gave him the money, the movie did not get made and Singh refused to return her money, the FIR reads.
