MUMBAI: Poll fever for the richest civic body — Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) — in the country, set for February 2017, has already gripped the city. From political parties to citizen groups, everybody has joined the fray.

Adding to this fervour is an online forum established by a group of 10 individuals, all under the age of 30, whose goal is to asses the work done by corporators in Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Kalina and Kurla.
The Mumbai North Central District Forum (MNCDF) will provide voters with portfolios of local corporators since their election after the 2012 civic poll. Active on Twitter, MNCDF has been working as a coordinator between authorities and citizens to resolve local civic issues for over a year now.
The forum acts as a mediator for complaints related to drainage, garbage, and various civic issues.
Trivankumar Karnani, a lawyer by profession who handles the MNCDF’s Twitter account, said that they will undertake a survey and analyse the forum’s experiences with the corporators before suggesting the citizens the best possible options to vote for. He said, “Most of the times, middle-class voters are simply ignored by the corporators. They only look at appeasing the slum-dwellers or do the work for the rich and influential. We will look at corporators and workers who have actually done good field work and tell citizens about our research that will be free of political affiliations.”
The exercise, Karnani said, will begin as soon as the parties release their list of candidates.
