SoBo gets 95.8mm rainfall on Saturday, suburbs get 34.6mm
MUMBAI: The city received heavy rains for a second consecutive day on Saturday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 95.8mm of rainfall in south Mumbai and 34.6mm in the suburbs.
Between 8.30am on Friday and 8.30am on Saturday, the Santacruz weather station recorded 115.2mm of rainfall — the highest in a 24-hour period this season — and the Colaba weather station recorded 58.2mm.
VK Rajeev, IMD director, western region, said, “The distinct offshore trough between south Gujarat and Kerala and an upper-air cyclonic circulation in south Gujarat mean that heavy rain in the Konkan region, including Mumbai, continues.”
Weathermen have forecast intermittent rain, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rain at one or two places in Mumbai for the 24-hour period from 8.30am on Saturday.
Under the IMD’s new classification, 15.6mm to 64.4mm of rain is ‘moderate’ 64.5mm to 115.5mm is ‘heavy’ 115.6mm to 204.4mm is ‘very heavy’ and more than 204.5mm is ‘extreme’
The maximum temperature on Saturday was 26.8 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 27.2 degrees Celsius at Santacruz, while the minimum temperature was 25 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 24.3 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. Humidity levels remained high - 87% at Colaba and 90% at Santacruz. Since June 1, the suburbs have received 380.1mm of rain while south Mumbai has received 266.5mm.
