While 1,000 houses will be located in Mumbai, the rest will be at Bolinj in Virar. “It is part of Mhada’s initiative to provide affordable houses,” said Satish Gawai, vice-president, Mhada.
And that’s not all. Mhada has also planned two more draws this year — for 2,454 houses at Virar during Diwali and 339 plots in the Konkan region in July.
The housing body received 87,647 applications for the 1,244 houses put on the block on Friday. “Mhada needs to fill the huge gap between demand and supply,” said activist Vinod Sampat.
