37 sailors watching over marooned ship

Police said the crew decided to stay close to the ship as they know the exact position of the containers. "Some of the cargo is hazardous. They can identify these containers the moment they fall off. An alert can be issued to immediately salvage those," sources said.

Quoting the statement of the MV Khalijia-III crew, sources said the ship did not receive any signal from Mumbai Port's Vessel Traffic Management System that made them sail blind before it rammed into the Chitra. Khalijia-III's bow hit the Chitra's middle. As the Khalijia-III brushed past, the Chitra began to list.
