4 dead, 1 hurt in accidents in city

A couple from Nashik — Sagar Sanasane, 26, and his wife Anita Sanasane, 24 — were travelling from Santacruz railway station to Kurla, when a speeding tempo collided with their autorickshaw in Kalina at around 1.15am.
Anita and the auto driver Surendra Sitla Prasad, 30, were rushed to the VN Desai Hospital, but were declared dead. Sagar was shifted to Nanavati Hospital at Vile Parle and is in a serious condition.
“We have not identified the accused, who fled the spot. We have seized his abandoned tempo based on which we will arrest him soon,” said assistant police inspector, A Kamble from Vakola police station.
In the other two incidents, a 21-year-old biker ran over a 51-year-old man at Khar, and a mini-tempo driver was killed as he collided with a dumper abandoned in the middle of the road at Vikhroli.
The accident at Khar took place around 8.30pm, when the decea-sed, Mohan Dhumak, a resident of Khar Danda, was crossing the road. The accused, Jagdish Salun-khe has been arrested for rash and negligent driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
