The deceased, Kevalchand Kotharia, was a resident of Raj Manor building located near Liberty Garden in Malad.

The police said Kotharia was suffering from a prolonged illness and hence was under depression. “He had several ailments.

He was staying with his son Ashok (50) and his daughter-in-law and their children,” said Police Sub Inspector B. Bankar of Malad police station.

The police found a suicide note from Kotharia’s pocket in which he had written that he was ending his life because he was tired of the prolonged illness and nobody is to be blamed for his death.

According to the police, Kotharia jumped off from the balcony of his residence at around 4 pm while his daughter in law was at home.

The watchman who heard the thud first informed Kotharia’s family following which the police was called in.

The Malad police have registered a case of accidental death. The body has been sent to Bhagwati Hospital for postmortem.
