‘Accused in minor’s rape, murder in Kurla not same’

This revelation has now given a new direction to the investigation, as the police earlier suspected the accused to be the same in all the three cases.

The bodies of two minor girls were found on the terraces of buildings in Nehru Nagar, Kurla (East) on February 9 and March 7, respectively.

Forensic tests revealed that the girls were raped before being murdered. The victim’s clothes in both the Nehru Nagar case were sent for forensic test and it revealed that the accused behind both the cases was same.

On April 29, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and molested by an unidentified man in a similar manner. However, the girl managed to escape when she managed to attract attention of passersby.

The accused though fled from the spot, the sleuths recovered his handkerchief, which was sent for forensic test.

Sources in the forensic laboratory at Kalina confirmed that the DNA pattern in the first two cases did not match with the last case. Senior Police Inspector P. Kale of Nehru Nagar police station said, “We are confident that the case will be solved soon.”

Police said that as it is now clear that the accused are different, it will help them in concentrating on the Nehru Nagar cases. Around 500 people have been questioned and more than 50 suspects have been subjected to DNA tests, but none have matched with those of accused.
