All work and no vacation make Mumbai citizens weary workers
Travel portal Expedia asked 8,000 people across 24 countries to spell out their work-holiday ratio. According to the responses, 97% Mumbaiites said they were deprived of vacations.
Mumbaiites have no time to go on vacations, says a global survey. Mumbai is the most vacation deprived, among five major Indian cities that took part in the survey.

Travel portal Expedia asked 8,000 people across 24 countries to spell out their work-holiday ratio. According to the responses, 97% Mumbaiites said they were deprived of vacations. Nationally, 88% felt that they did not have enough vacations. For Mumbai, one major reason for the vacation deprivation was the difficulty in using their sanctioned quota of leave in a year, the study observed.

“Vacations play an important role in maintaining the work-life balance and general well-being of employees. The survey highlights that Mumbaiites enjoy work more than relaxing at vacations, as most of them avail very few leaves, as compared to the days they are awarded,” said Vikram Malhi, managing director, Expedia (Asia).
More than four out of 10 Mumbaiites even felt guilty for going on a vacation. The survey findings also showed that work hours exceeded 41 hours for 60% Mumbaiites in a week and nearly capital are on vacation, they seldom take a break from work. Almost one in four respondents said their bosses were not supportive in granting them leaves.
Given a choice, 53% said they would pick an increment, while the rest opted for a holiday.
