He was a member on two state-appointed committees — dealing with high-rises and heritage structures — where his role was to assess the structural stability of buildings. The high-rises panel has to clear every building project in the city rising above 70 metres, while the heritage conservation committee decides on changes to be made to such structures.

“We have terminated him from the committees. His vacant position will soon be filled,” said Urban Development Principal Secretary TC Benjamin.

On Monday the ACB had arrested Mahimtura along with his employees who were caught accepting an initial bribe amount at a city builder’s residence at Matunga.
