At 12.15pm, the police control received an anonymous call about a bomb being placed on the premises of Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce.

The control room immediately contacted the Khar police, who called in the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the dog squad to search the premises.

“The Hindi examination was about to begin, but we did not evacuate the college and let the students give their papers. The call turned out to be a hoax. Even after search was over, we waited in the college until 4.30pm to ensure that things went smoothly,” said Mangesh Pote, senior police inspector of the Khar police station.

The police have traced the number to a public call office in Bandra and are conducting inquiries to trace the caller.

They suspect it could be a student who was probably not prepared for the examination.

“It is too early to comment,” Pote added.
