Bombay HC queries govt over attacks on social activists

In the backdrop of recent attacks on social activists, the Bombay High Court on Thursday sought to know from the Maharashtra government what steps it was proposing to take in this regard.

In the backdrop of recent attacks on social activists, the Bombay High Court on Thursday sought to know from the Maharashtra government what steps it was proposing to take in this regard.

During the hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding an alleged land scam, the court touched upon the attack at the residence of Naina Katpalia, who is associated with NGO Citi Space here, and the killing of RTI activist Satish Shetty at Talegaon near Pune on Wednesday.

The police are bound to protect the people who approached courts, it said.

The court also asked the advocate general to take instructions from the government in this regard.
