Constructed by suburban power distributor Reliance Infrastructure, the 4.2km transmission link is connected to the state transmission company, Mahatransco's Boisar-Borivli network, which carries power from the national grid to the city and adjoining areas. RInfra's line will ease the load on Mahatransco, which if needed can bring in more power to the four distribution companies.

According to authorities from RInfra's Mumbai transmission unit, the new link would help in providing a feed to the city at Ghodbunder extra high voltage sub-station, bypassing the Boisar-Borivli-Aarey path.

RInfra has, so far, spent Rs650 crore on upgrading its network, including the new link.
