The deceased, Kishan Sakharam Shendge, a resident of Bhandup (West) was working as a gardener at Sharad garden near Sharad Industrial Estate on Lake Road.

The accused Bala (whose full name is not known) has not been arrested.

The police said the incident took place around 2.15pm on Friday. Shendge and the complainant Ramdas Sajekar, 48, who is employed as a security guard at the garden, were working when the accused entered the garden and began kicking Sajekar’s cabin door. He then entered inside the cabin and began throwing chairs.

Shendge and Sajekar approached the accused and tried to calm him down.

The two men were pulling Bala out of the cabin when he, in a fit of rage, punched Shendge in his chest.

“The impact of the blow was so massive than Shendge collapsed. While Bala fled, Sajekar rushed him to the nearby Romin Nursing Home where he was declared dead on arrival. We have booked Bala for murder and are trying to trace him,” said V Shinde of Bhandup police station. The police said the reason why Bala was angry will be known only after he is traced.
