A citizen activist group has launched a campaign to create awareness about the Right to Information (RTI) act in south central Mumbai.
Mahiti Adhikar Manch, a citizen forum group of the F-south ward which covers Parel, Sewri and Naigaon and surrounding areas, will guide citizens and ward officers. This is their second year of the campaign.
“Many people want to file a RTI application but they are not aware about its format. We are going to teach them the same,” said Bhaskar Prabhu, a founding member of the Mahiti Adhikar Manch. Deputy municipal commissioner of zone II, Kishor Kshirsagar, inaugurated the campaign on Wednesday. He briefed the group of activists and asked them to take such campaigns in other public offices like MTNL, BSNL and BEST depots. The citizen forum has set up a kiosk just at the entrance of the ward office building.
“This is a good initiative for the common people. Such campaigns should happen more often to promote transparency in the society,” said Kshirsagar.
