Sitting legislators have been denied renomination to 11 posts. The Congress on Friday denied a ticket to union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh’s trusted aide Ulhas Pawar and instead fielded Sharad Ranpise.

It also rewarded Sanjay Dutt, who vacated his Council berth last year for chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, with a nomination.

The party’s state president Manikrao Thakre managed to get renominated.

Eleven seats vacated by retiring members will be filled through these elections in which the voters would be members of the assembly.

The NCP has nominated Jaidev Gaikwad from Pune and Mathadi union leader Narendra Patil and former BJP MLA Amarsingh Pandit. The BJP gave tickets to Vijay Girkar, a Dalit representative and former Mumbai corporator Ashish Shelar.

Peasants and Workers Party legislator Jayant Patil has also jumped into the fray. He is trying to get votes from the MNS and independents.
