The Gamdevi police said that the group members were dressed as tourists and seemed to belong to the north-east. At 11.30am, a man and three women entered the

Ramniklal Jewellers shop and started speaking in English. “The women engaged the staff and the man started giving them suggestions on jewellery. One of the women then went to the corner of the counter and stole two diamond-studded gold bangles, as the man kept a watch on the staff. Soon after, they walked out,” said Ravindra Gamre, assistant inspector of Gamdevi police.

The owners learnt about the theft while closing the shop at night. But, the incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the shop.
The group’s modus operandi was to steal when the staff is setting up the shop. They had unsuccessfully tried a similar trick in a neighbouring shop half-an-hour before committing the robbery.

The police have circulated the photos of the accused obtained from the CCTV footage and have also informed the airport authorities.
