Fifty-three-year-old Khan who is suffering from diabetes and various other ailments, had moved the high court alleging jail authorities were not taking him to the hospital for medical checks.

The court had ordered the jail authorities to take Khan to JJ Hospital on Saturday.

“He was suffering from upper respiratory and urinary tract infection. But as the infection was mild, there was no need to get him admitted to the hospital. He has been given oral medication for the infection,” said Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital. He said Khan’s diabetes was under control.

According to the doctors at JJ Hospital, Khan was taken to three different departments – medicine, nephrology and urology – after being checked by the casualty medical officer at the hospital at 4 pm.
