According to an email sent to travel agents, the one-way economy class fares were available on 14 domestic routes, comprising a mix of metros and tier-two towns connecting Mumbai.
The fares remained more or less than the same for busy metro routes such as Mumbai-Delhi (Rs4,407) and lull sectors such as Mumbai-Kochi (Rs5,120).
The one-way fare for Mumbai to Goa was the cheapest at Rs. 2805.
“This kind of an offer might just wake up a budget traveller to make travel plans during Diwali. But people, who plan their visits well in advance, get discounted tickets anyway,” said Anup Kanuga, owner Bathija Travels.
Travel trade sources also pointed out that the scheme has a trick in the fine print.
“Although the scheme seems tempting, the fine print says that discounted fares are subject to availability.
This means that the airline might offer just five to six seats at discounted fares in a flight,” said a South Mumbai-based travel agent requesting anonymity.
