Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday told the departments concerned - housing, stamp and registration, and revenue - to work together in close coordination so that all 88,000 cooperative housing societies in Maharashtra get their conveyance work done.

Conveyance is a process through which ownership of the land on which a building is made is transferred from the builder to the housing society.

However, many builders have kept societies waiting so they can use up any remaining Floor Space Index (FSI) or alter the buildings for further financial exploitation.

To stop this illegal practice, the government came out with a special law to enable societies to get deemed conveyance.

Chavan has asked for an online list of all housing societies in the state, with information on whether they have got their conveyance done or not.

He also said more administrative posts should be created so the scheme can be executed before the deadline.
