More than 17 lakh students will study the updated syllabus from the coming academic year starting June.

School education minister Rajendra Darda has asked for a clarification from the state board and Balbharti, the state body that publishes textbooks.

Despite repeated attempts, both Ganghadar Mhamane, director of Balbharti, and board chairman Sarjerao Jadhav were unavailable for comment.

Experts said the mistake crept in because the map has been scaled down.

“The focus of the map is on the neighbouring countries and not the states. Arunachal is not clearly visible because the map is reduced in size,” said J Sharma, a retired geography teacher.
