A government resolution to this effect was issued on Monday, an official release said.

The resolution lays down guidelines to govern the use of beacon lights and prevent their misuse.

If police or transport officers notice misuse of beacon lights, they should bring it to the notice of the secretary of the department concerned, the release said.

It will be the responsibility of the secretary of every department to ensure that no official in the department or in the civic body uses red or amber beacon lights sans authorisation, it said.

There is provision of a departmental probe and strict action against the erring official, it stated.

Traffic police and RTO officials have been instructed to conduct checks and detain those misusing the red beacons.
