Man held for smuggling gutka worth Rs 2.28 lakh

A 47-year-old Kurla resident was arrested by the railway police on Thursday morning when he was trying to smuggle in 16 consignments of adulterated gutka products at the Bandra terminus.

A 47-year-old Kurla resident was arrested by the railway police on Thursday morning when he was trying to smuggle in 16 consignments of adulterated gutka products at the Bandra terminus.

The accused, Akbar Hasan Khan, had gone to pick up the assignment worth Rs 2.28 lakh when he was arrested, the officials said.

The consignment, which was containing the Tiranga brand of gutka, had arrived in the city from New Delhi in the Dehradun Express, the officials added.

The police booked Khan for cheating and also under the Food and Drug Adulteration Act and will be interrogating him to get more details.
