The Mankhurd police said Mohamed Mustaqeem Chaudhary, who lives and runs a rented shop dealing in scrap in Mandala, knew the victim who lives in the same area.

The police said the girl’s parents filed a complaint against Chaudhary on Saturday night alleging that Chaudhary took the girl into his shop and raped her.

“In their complaint, the parents have alleged that Chaudhary raped their daughter in his shop on Saturday and threatened her not to tell anybody about it,” said a police officer of Mankhurd police station, requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to talk to the media.

“The girl, however, told her family members about the incident after she returned home,” he added.

Chaudhary was sent to the Nagpada police hospital on Sunday for medical tests.

The victim was admitted to Shatabdi Hospital at Deonar for medical examinations.

“The accused relocated his shop from Kurla a few years ago and has been operating his shop in the area since then. He was not under the influence of alcohol when the alleged rape took place. We are waiting for the medical reports to ascertain the victim’s clams,” said Pascal D’Souza, senior inspector of Mankhurd police station.
