'Misinterpretation of Quran is the root cause of terror'

Misinterpretation of the Quran in madrassas is the main cause of terrorism, said members of the foreign ministry of Saudi Arabia, who were in the city on Thursday for a conference organised by the National Institute of Jihad Against Atrocities and Terrorism.

Misinterpretation of the Quran in madrassas is the main cause of terrorism, said members of the foreign ministry of Saudi Arabia, who were in the city on Thursday for a conference organised by the National Institute of Jihad Against Atrocities and Terrorism.

The Saudi speakers emphasised upon the need for reformation of education system in madrassas in India, stating that a change in the education syllabus in religious schools in Saudi Arabia helped bring peace.

"After terror attacks in the US... we changed the syllabus to go beyond the religious point of view to focus on academics, including subjects such as mathematics and science," Dr Saad Saeed Al Qarni, professor of Al Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Saudi Arabia.
