The 60-tonne-heavy beam, being installed near Mysore Colony, RCF Road, crashed as the crane holding the clamp slipped at around 6.30 pm, deputy chief fire officer H N Muzawar said. Baldev Singh, 45, and Dinesh Kumar, 22, employees of Larsen & Toubro, the company executing the project, were killed on the spot.

The accident comes a month before the scheduled trial run on the Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle stretch. The 19.54-km-long monorail corridor is slated to be the world’s second-longest monorail section after Japan’s Osaka corridor.
