Mumbai: Man takes loan, creditors kidnap, assault his brother

To get information on a man, who fled after taking loan from them, a gang of nine allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his 44-year-old brother in Mumbai.

To get information on a man, who fled after taking loan from them, a gang of nine allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his 44-year-old brother in Mumbai. While one of the assailants, Majid Kale, has been arrested, the police are on the lookout for his accomplices. There is no clarity on the loan amount, said police.

According to the police, Sharif Shaikh, who works at a garment workshop, was allegedly kidnapped from near his Jogeshwari residence at 11.30pm on Monday. Shaikh told the police the men forced him inside a car and took him to a shop in Bori compound near Ram Mandir in Goregaon (West), where they were joined by their accomplices. The group assaulted Shaikh with plastic sticks and water pipes.

“The family was not aware of the loan. The men dropped Shaikh to Jogeshwari on Wednesday morning. They also stole his mobile phone worth Rs 10,000,” said Sunil Wadke, senior inspector, Goregaon police station.

Shaikh has been admitted to a hospital in Goregaon, where he is currently recuperating. A case of kidnapping for ransom, assault and robbery was registered against the men on Thursday night. The police are questioning Kale to establish the identity of his accomplices. Kale has been remanded in police custody till March 23.
