Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporators of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Tuesday demanded a CID inquiry into suspended corporator Sunil Joshi’s controversial reinstatement on June 18. They have also tonsured their heads in protest.
KDMC’s assistant director of town planning, Joshi, was suspended last year after being jailed on several counts of graft. Since his release on bail, he unsuccessfully attempted reinstatement twice.
On June 18, KDMC mayor Vaijanti Gholap hurried the proposal through and reportedly played the national anthem right after, to silence dissenters. Congress party workers yesterday demanded Gholap’s resignation for her actions.
Umesh Borgoankar, NCP corporator said, “Money power was used to reinstate him.”
Ramnath Sonawane, commissioner, KDMC said: “I have sent a report to the state government about this proposal. It was passed without any regard for rules.”
