A newly-married couple from Kalwa allegedly committed suicide at their Manishanagar residence on Friday night.
While the body of Shilpa Parab, 28, was found lying on the bed in one bedroom, her husband Suhas, 30, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the other room, the police said.
The couple’s body was sent for post-mortem to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. The Kalwa police have registered an accidental death report so far.
According to the note found at their residence, the couple committed suicide since the company Suhas worked for was running in losses.
“Suhas worked as an accountant with Pioneer Group of Companies, which is into share markets. He was upset since it wasn’t doing very well,” said senior inspector Arun Sonde.
Police officials suspect that Suhas may have first killed Shilpa as there were injury marks near her ear. “Suhas had hanged himself using a bed sheet. He had also tried to slash his wrist using a blade. While doctors have told us that Suhas died due to hanging, they have reserved their opinion regarding Shilpa’s death. We are waiting for the post-mortem reports,” Sonde said.
Suhas and Shilpa got married on June 7 this year and stayed alone in the flat at Parijath building. While Suhas’s parents live at their native place in Kudal, his two elder brothers and sister stay at Hanuman Chowk in Kalwa.
“Shilpa’s sister had been calling them up on their respective mobile phones all day, but their phones were switched off,” said Suhas Kulkarni, a neighbour of the couple.
“Worried she came to their house in the evening and rang the doorbell several times. When there was no response, she then knocked on our door and asked for the spare key. She then realised that the door was locked from inside. I then called the police at 9pm, who found the couple’s bodies.”
