The Konkan Railway (KR) has launched a unique shopping service, similar to buying products on aircrafts, where passengers can purchase gifts and utility items while travelling from Mumbai to Goa on the Konkankanya Express and the Mandovi Express.
“This service, which was launched on February 14, is being provided as a goodwill gesture to our passengers,” Siddheshwar Telugu, chief public relations officer of KR said.
The items sold onboard the trains include watches for women and men, portable music systems, neck-band MP3 players, designer jewellery sets, belts and wallets.
Passengers can also buy perfumes, toys, sunglasses, women’s clutches and handbags, and even electronics such as multimedia speakers.
The railways will also offer on sale exciting products such as spy pens with a video recorder, portable battery packs, car inverters and computer travel kits, among other things.
The products will be sold during daytime journeys between Mangaon and Madgaon stations.
Ava Merchandising Solutions Pvt Ltd has been authorised to sell the products at discounted and competitive rates to passengers, said KR officials.
