The deadline for the deepening, widening and de-silting work was May 2009, but the project is still on.
Only 10 per cent of the deepening and widening work is remaining. Construction of the retaining wall and service roads will be completed by the end of this year.

There was a plan to rope in private players to beautify the riverbank. What is the status of this?
There are no private players involved as of now. Both, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, will implement the beautification as and when public lands are available. MMRDA is greening a 900-metre area on the Mithi’s banks in Bandra-Kurla Complex.

When will the Mithi be treated and cleaned of toxic discharges and
pollutants?
The de-silting, deepening and building of a retaining wall were short-term measures undertaken to increase the Mithi’s water holding capacity and secure its
dimensions.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board is set to undertake a long-term, city-wide sewage treatment and disposal
project under which the Mithi will be treated.
