Crime branch officials said during the course of the investigation into the murders of senior citizen Arun Tikku and aspiring Bollywood producer Karan Kakkad, they found out that the real name of Simran, 37, the wife of murder accused Vijay Palande, is Seema Dusaj.

Both she and Palande have been arrested for the murders.

A senior crime branch officer said on Wednesday that Simran aka Seema is originally from Ludhiana and that her parents are teachers.

The officer said Seema had landed in Mumbai in the mid 1990s to make a career in Bollywood. "She lived in Juhu close to where Palande worked and the two met at a gymnasium, not far from his hotel."

In the meantime, Palande had murdered Air India employee Anup Das and his father Swaraj and usurped their Juhu flat. "Palande and Seema soon moved into Das's flat," the officer said.

Seema's first brush with the law came when she went to encash a cheque of Rs 5 lakh belonging to Anup Das at a Borivli bank on Palande's instructions. However, the cashier grew suspicious when Das's signature did not match the one recorded with the bank. He alerted the police who questioned Seema. Palande was then picked up.

In 2003, Palande jumped parole during his conviction in connection with the double-murder. He changed his name to Karan Sood and Seema's to Simran Sood, identifying the latter as his sister.

While Palande obtained three passports under different names, he got one made for for

Seema under the name of Simran Sood.
