Gandhi's visit assumes significance in the wake of a gloomy mood in the party, growing friction among senior leaders and talks of change in leadership at organisation and government levels. The party faces an uneasy alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party, which has improved its position significantly ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Though details of the tour were not immediately available, city youth Congress president Sadaf Aboli confirmed that Gandhi would interact with youth Congress delegates. He did not confirm the venue, but sources in the party said that the event could happen at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle.

Later in the day, Gandhi will address presidents of the party's block and district units at Tilak Bhavan, also in Vile Parle. He is also expected to interact with elected representatives including legislators and members of Parliament from the state and city.
