Justice Anoop Mohta granted the bonus while hearing a petition filed by the civic body challenging the order of an industrial tribunal, which had asked the BMC to pay the bonus to the employees. The high court has asked the BMC to pay the bonus with interest within six weeks. On September 19 and 20, BMC employees had gone on strike to protest against the non-implementation of sixth pay commission recommendations.
