Rly stations still to put up new fare list
The revised train fares have come into effect from January 1, but commuters complained that most stations in the city were yet to put up the updated fare chart.
For instance, commuters at Ghatkopar station said the new rates were not displayed near booking offices, which created confusion. At Thane, though the list was put up, it wasn’t near the ticket counter.
“The booking office has been moved out of the [Thane] station premises. I was on my way to the station manager’s office when I spotted the revised fare list,” said Siddhi Mehta, 30, a Thane resident.
Michelle Almeida, 24, a medical student, also could not find the correct price of a ticket. “The least the railways can do is strike off the old rates and write down the new fares next to it,” Almedia said.
Sources from the railways said work of putting up the new list was underway, but it will take some time.
“Exact dates cannot be estimated, but the list will be displayed soon,” said AK Singh, spokesperson, Central Railway.
“Commuters already have an idea about the increased fares, so it should not be a problem. The revised list is uploaded in all the systems at ticket windows and ATVMs,” he added.
Meanwhile, ticket checkers are also facing a tough time. “Many commuters who use coupons are still not aware of the new ticket prices. We are being lenient with them till there is some more awareness about the hike and the new fare chart is put up,” said Deepak Patil, head ticket checker at Dadar Station.
