The police have registered an offence against three unknown persons. Police inspector Subhash Patil, Mahatma Phule police station said, “The girl lives in Dombivli and had gone to Pune to meet her friend. While returning from Pune, she boarded the Chennai Express which reaches at Kalyan around 2.15am."

At this time there, was no local train to Dombivli so she called her friend Devendra Kadam, 22.

After the girl reached Kalyan, Kadam and she went to Sarode Garden, near Platform No 1. Three youth, aged between 25 and 30 years, saw the two in the garden. One of them whipped out a knife and asked Kadam to leave the place. The three dragged the girl to a dark corner of the park and allegedly gang-raped her.

Kadam rushed to the platform and told the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel about the incident. But when Kadam and the police reached the spot after about 20 minutes, the accused had fled the spot. Later, the girl approached the GRP Kalyan and registered the offence but after inspecting the spot, the police found that the area is outside the railway platform and not under their jurisdiction.

They transferred the case to Mahatma Phule police station, Kalyan.
