Teacher’s Day is generally celebrated by felicitating teachers and giving them gifts.

But, teachers in Ulhasnagar celebrated this day by donating their blood to a government hospital's blood bank.

Jagdish Dhangar, a teacher at Ulhas Vidyalaya and one of the organisers said: “Every year our students wish us, get gifts or government and private organisations felicitate us. But this year we decided to do something different."

“I have been reading in newspapers that lakhs of the people died due to lack of blood at the blood banks. So, as teachers we decided to spread a message of "Donate Blood, Save Life", he added.

A blood donation camp was organised in Ulhas Vidyalaya where more than 200 teachers donated blood.

Upendra Borade, a teacher, said: “Today blood is needed almost everyday as there are so many accidents taking place. Those injured need blood on priority basis so Rashtravadi Shikshak Sanghata, teachers' association, has taken initiative.”
