The Azad Maidan police have registered a case against the tour operator, who is on the run, and said the list of victims may rise to more than 200.
The police have registered a case against Rehan Abdul Rashid Hajate, who operates Al-Muqaddas Tours and Travels from Dongri and its branch at Bhiwandi, after retired IPS officer Abdul Kadir Abu Bakr Khan lodged a complaint against him.
“Khan’s complaint states that Hajate took the money from people book air tickets to Mecca. However, he kept saying the tickets were not getting reserved because of technical reasons,” said Deepak Dhole, senior inspector of Azad Maidan police station.
“Thirteen of my family members and me were duped. Hajate charged less compared to other tour operators, which is why we approached him,” Khan told HT.
